Pillar of Black Tennis: Domino Boulware

Today we celebrate a pillar of tennis in South Carolina.

Domino Boulware is a husband, father, mentor, certified teaching professional and South Carolina Tennis Hall of Fame inductee. For more than 35 years, he has grown grassroots tennis for all ages, abilities and economic circumstances.

Domino and his wife Jackie have created a tennis oasis in Columbia at Greenview Park, one of the few predominantly Black tennis communities in the state. The couple, along with the late Dr. Moses Dixon, founded DD & J Junior Tennis Foundation nearly 25 years ago. The nonprofit in Columbia uses the power of the game to build character, support educational achievement and to reduce juvenile problems that lead to delinquency, teen pregnancy and other social ills. They also run the Bolden/Martin Math and Science Camp.

Domino has worked with public school classes and teachers for decades and has lead Mayor Benjamin’s Annual Skills and Drills tennis program for the City of Columbia. And on any given day, you can find Domino introducing the sport to youth in underserved rural communities across the state. His legacy stretches far and wide.
